Falling for September

Although it remains hot here in our little corner of the world, this year’s Fall season is almost upon us. This month, we’ll officially welcome Fall on Friday, September 22, but here at the bookshop, Fall has already arrived!
I don’t know about you, but Fall has always been my favorite time of year. I’m so thankful God created our world the way He did, with a variety of seasons. Of course, these cycles of change serve practical purposes, but just think…He didn’t have to make it so beautiful, interesting, & enjoyable for us…but He did! It speaks of who He is & of His love for us. While Jesus’ substitutionary death on the cross & triumph over the grave is the ultimate demonstration of God’s love, His kindness & goodness towards us can be seen in everything, even in something as simple as a colorful Fall leaf fluttering to the ground.

I’m so looking forward to enjoying this season with you at the bookshop. As we wait for the air to cool & crisp, and as we anticipate the leaves letting go of their green & drying in gorgeous shades of orange, yellow, & red, I hope you’ll visit the bookshop & delight in the festive Fall escape we’ve created. As you browse, you’ll find new Fall-themed items, including books for everyone, a new long-sleeve t-shirt design, garden flags & porch boards, journals, coloring books, gift items, etc.

Book of the Month

For September’s featured book, I’ve chosen Living Slower by popular lifestyle blogger Merissa A. Alink. Living slower is something that Alink has purposefully pursued, despite living in our increasingly chaotic world that seems to send the message that busier is better and stress is to be expected. After years of trying to do it all, Alink & her family began the journey of slow, simple living and have since experienced its numerous benefits. They have found that this countercultural way of life enables them to eat healthier, develop & maintain stronger relationships both with God & others, and save money, just to name a few.
In her book, Alink writes to help those who are tired of feeling frenzied, anxious, & disconnected from the naturally slower & simpler rhythms of life. She shares the secrets to living slower which include checking our priorities. She encourages readers to seek God first, and then, commit to take small, actionable steps that will help to slowly but surely transform your life into one where you’re actually living out your values. These small steps can include decluttering, committing to weekly rest, cherishing relationship, and limiting the role of technology in your life.

As creation begins to slow down this Fall, maybe it would be a good idea for us to follow suit and pursue a slower, simpler way of being and living as well. I hope you’ll join me in reading this helpful and inspiring book this September.
