In With The New

Last month, I kicked off the new year here at the bookshop with the addition of a few brand new

items. I’m excited to have a variety of porch boards in the shop now - christian ones, seasonal ones, even a birthday one! These American made porch boards are weatherproof, can stand or hang, and can be used beyond the porch, in places like mudrooms, entryways, kitchens, etc. I’ve also introduced a selection of handmade natural soy candles. These 8 oz. candles are exclusive to The Book Basket, and current scents are Apple Pie, Coffee Cake, Cafe Mocha, & Hot Chocolate; more scents will be coming soon! A variety of Christian vinyl stickers and car decals are also new. They’re a great way to decorate not only your car’s rear window, but also your water bottle, and laptop or iPad, all while expressing your faith. If you haven’t already, I hope you’ll come visit the bookshop and check out all these new items!

This month, the bookshop is also filled with Valentine’s Day-specific books and cards (for children and adults) and love-centered merchandise, including a new t-shirt design, caps, jewelry, & home decor items. Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, so don’t delay in getting your spouse, child, or special someone something to show them that you love them and are thankful for them.

Beginning this month, I also look forward to offering loyalty cards to all of my patrons! Every time you shop, your card will be stamped, and once all ten “$10 Spent” spots are filled, you’ll have earned $10 off your next purchase. Thank you to all my loyal customers who have supported me from the start; you inspired this card! Drop by the bookshop and get your loyalty card today!

Book of the Month

For February, I’ve chosen Love Finds You in Maiden, North Carolina as the Book of the Month.

In this fictional story set in the roaring 1920s, we meet Hestia Myatt who leaves behind a broken engagement and medical school dreams to move to Maiden, NC in order to care for her sickly aunt. While in Maiden, she reconnects with an old childhood classmate as well as her glamorous cousin who visits from New York. As Hestia spends more and more time with these two, we follow her journey of navigating changing relationships as well as the changing times. Will Hestia remain true to herself, her faith, her convictions? Or will she embrace a more wild, worldly lifestyle? Will she be the one influenced or will she be the one who has a positive, life-changing effect on others?

Valentine Trivia

  • The first mention of St. Valentine’s Day as a romantic holiday was in a 1375 poem by Geoffrey Chaucer.

  • The oldest known written valentine message (which still survives today!) was a poem written by Charles, Duke of Orleans, to his wife in 1415 after he was captured and imprisoned in the Tower of London.

  • Today, around 145 million Valentine’s Day cards are sent each year, along with about 50 million roses.

I hope you all have a lovely Valentine’s Day this month!

Let us all remember the greatest love of all - God’s love for each of us!

Praise the Lord! Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! Psalm 106:1
